Strawmen
02:56
|
|||
Like the STRAWMEN
seeing in double the saints play your tune
dreams of your maker they fall in on you
stuck in a show and leaning on the ropes,
with sucker punches we didn't throw
pushin the air between my busted teeth
what could you do, he studied your every move
now your feet they're slipping on the rules
while the drunk and the cowards run down the avenue
stuck in the age of strawmen
drinking the spills of history
and how they're gonna shake him
and how they're gonna break him in two
radio cues and all the static news
it drifts like winter, with no heat on
playing your part and now the stock's on you
down in the first you knocked him through the roof
and the crowd they wandered with defeat on
quick in disguise they ran down the avenue
stuck in the age of strawmen
drinking the spills of history
and how they're gonna shake him
and how they're gonna break him

Anthem For 2nd Place
03:18
|

ANTHEM FOR 2ND PLACE
before you saw the game before you saw the game we lost
we were beautiful
and before we start to change before we start to change it all
can we just say this once
we're sorry for the pain we cause
we shake with every thought if it makes you feel less wrong
we we're foolish oh
we're sorry for the pain we cause but we have no way
and we won't be forced to explain
go and stare straight into the sun and we will be there
there's no way of dressing it up this wound is keeping
so start the meeting one by one we sing and then jump
you gotta see it burning up all the shame we can find
you gotta feel it you gotta feel it you can't name this
the hours we traded you can't name this

Flower

FLOWER
a flower is a sour thing and it don't represent my dream of you
it's a pretty conversation piece or a flashy hotel I think
a flower is a one night stand only good for your lips and hands
but awkward like a naked man
all the patience we have earned while watching all the scenery
all the poems we could learn then crumple into three
a flower is a strategy only good for I'm sorry please
like nature's bubble gum ring fun when you're seventeen
all the patience we have earned while watching all the scenery
all the poems we could learn then crumple into three
every picture in this room giving us subtle clues
every painting in this room waiting for their freedom too
the poet doesn't grasp it's hidden under glass
the poet doesn't grasp it's never gonna last it's never gonna last
I might prefer a bright red crayon with broad strokes
And secret plans surviving in a child's hand

Carnival
04:04
|
|||
CARNIVAL
bulls eye memory they met once in Tel Aviv
she knows cause he's shaking like a tree
she said you fell drunk into me and screamed out into the street
we're all just here to compete and that a girl wants a guy to mistreat
well she laughed most suddenly he fell back into his seat
and dreamed of his hands on her feet
he said do just what you want give me what you got
cause I'm feeling fit for the roast
oh tell me what you know about this carnival
sing for me I'm sold I'll hang on every note
she said let's meet again at 9 o clock ditch your friends
we'll hit the block there's something you really outta know
he said wait what's your number please you never told me honestly
she kissed him quick and headed for the door
humming a tune he ain't never heard before
well it's the same old song you see boy meets girl and everything
except for when the wind begins to blow and he
wondered if she ever could've known
oh tell me what you know about my sorry soul
sing for me I'm sold I'll hang on every note
the politics were obvious she the rock he sisyphus
he was pushin but he didn't even know
because at 10 o clock she didn't show
and just as he got up to go he thought of something
that she might've said and that was
do just what you want and drink one for me because
some of us were meant to be alone
oh tell me what you know about this carnival
sing for me I'm sold I'll hang on every note
oh tell me what you know about my sorry soul
sing for me I'm sold I'll hang on every note

Six Foot Solemn Oath
05:14
|
|||
SIX FOOT SOLEMN OATH
pull my arms to edge of the road
spin me fast don't let go
tug my ears in the windy cold
hear the sound of the snow
want to see everyone everything
chase me to home on a tight rope of stones
whisper you see the trees they don't know
how many toes cut across this here road
one of them sneaking up on you
well stretch my hands to the beat of a drum
we could dance everyone
pull my legs I won't be long
you could bring me along
up the hill in car we can feel easy we sway
like an old time parade what do you see
what does it mean when the people look sad
what's that you say when a stone's marked with name
oh what you see a ceremony when you get old
and it's time to let go it's where people go
down there must be cold a six foot solemn oath
hold my eyes I don't wanna believe
I could hide in the trees
oh but no you don't have to go
Spin me fast don't let go
down there must be cold a six foot solemn oath
I believe is one too much for me
I feel much better no I'm never going under ground
to push the flowers I feel like shakin almost breakin
oh the worms below won't ever crawl on me
I feel much better no I'm never going under ground
to spend the hours I feel like shakin almost breakin
tell the other side to save my soul for you
I feel much better no I'm never going under ground
to spend the hours I feel like shakin almost breakin
tell the other side to save my soul for you

The Artist Type
04:22
|

THE ARTIST TYPE
how in the hell did you know that train would arrive
what do you see when you close those painted eyes
looking at you I can see you're the artist type high and dry
perfectly flawed like the picture you found in the drawer
perfectly lost from the time that you stole it before oh what's more
it's pretty indeed but you tell me that you see more
falling in to a room with the sounds you can't ignore
it pains your heart and I get what's left on the floor
when beauty is gone will you come back to me
you sung every song you could possibly need
you suffer the same thing every tree is another thing you could be
drowned in sorrow calling me from the middle of the street
carving the streets with a hand held book for a gun
hoping to find what's eating everyone sadness waits but you just run
over the hills and through to the setting sun
looking for signs of the one who made it up
but all the while you're wasting the rest of your life
when beauty is gone will you come back to me
you sung every song you could possibly need
you suffer the same thing every tree is another thing you could be
drowned in sorrow
when beauty is gone will you come back to me
you sung every song you could possibly need oh and you need
you suffer the same thing every tree is another thing you could be
drowned in sorrow calling me from the middle of the street

The Same The Same
04:19
|
|||
THE SAME THE SAME
you can tell it's gonna be one hell of an evening
wallflower let em free your sour memories
that grow just right in the light when your alone
and the drinkers still believe in perfect misery
they ache so patiently to love your enemy
and the knots that keep you strong in the fight
start to slip untie in the night
I want just once a feeling to remain the same the same
add one to one you always get the same explain explain
please just don't say you leave it up to fate
and you say who could it be that's speaking for me
i'm waiting for the news I feel like one of you
we try to stick to one life
who will you be today who stole your tongue away
and the knots that keep you strong in the fight
start to slip untie in the night when you're alone
so take quickly to your seat and see who it'll be
I want just once a feeling to remain the same the same
add one to one you always get the same explain explain
moments sitting separate no refrain i'll scrimp i'll save
please just don't say you leave it up to fate

So It Goes
05:51
|
|||
SO IT GOES
so easy to laugh at all the symmetry
it's a right turn followed by a right turn
and the sign posts showing all the places
maybe we should go
there's a fault line between all of us
I've been lucky each time
still you look at me with a worried curiosity
but I don't believe it and I can't hardly wait
to prove everyone wrong
cause I'll pick a side no one is on
so it goes I'm full of holes
the change was slow
like cannon balls
but oh you save me
each time you take me home
it's a spring board from the ocean to the corner store
the shiny bottles look so pretty
and romance a breathe blown and frozen on the glass door
which signals the fading dreams of middle
and the gin taste like fiddles almost gone almost gone
pushing for answers I don't wanna know
cause I'll pick a side where no body goes just you won't
so it goes I'm full of holes
the change was slow
like cannon balls
so it goes I'm full of holes
the change was slow
like cannon balls
but oh you save me
each time you take me home
and oh you save me
each time you take me home

Just So You Know
04:50
|

JUST SO YOU KNOW
my heart keeps beating like a juke box stuck on the who
my heart keeps beating but there's not much more I can use
just so so you know there's a new car I stole
I drove into a tree hoping that you would see
Just so so you know just so so you know
And maybe I'm all wrong but there's an blot I saw
it looked like you and me or maybe something like a good dream
my heart keeps beating like a juke box stuck on the who
my heart keeps beating but there's not much more I can use
and I'm so tired afraid of what I'm gonna do
and I've seen the films but they don't show what I feel
instead I found a book which you never even took
for 3 nights in a row there's pills that I stole
and maybe I'm all wrong but there's an ink blot I saw
it looked like you and me or maybe something
like a mood swing
my heart keeps beating like a juke box stuck on the who
my heart keeps beating but there's not much more I can use
my heart keeps beating like a juke box stuck on the who
my heart keeps beating but there's not much more I can use
and I'm so tired it's been a while afraid of what I'm gonna do
just so so you know

Attention
04:28
|
|||
ATTENTION
oh it's a shame to admit but we all just wish to die young
well attention's all that I want someone who will laugh and cheer me on this time you know I'm kicking your chair and tugging on to your arm listen look at me now
one second it feels like a whole hour
on a swing set with your feet up on your own you show just how high you can go
in school yard it's so hard to hear them call your name
like you were under a spell this feeling you miss oh well
but you progress with focus and learn to think before you say or you're grounded away
and your fathers on his way to say society don't wait a moment
it's really a shame cause we all just wish to be young, well it sure felt good to play
dumb like pleading the fifth four three to one you know I'm skipping the charm and pulling the firm alarm well detention's all that I want somewhere I can sit and think what I done this time
but like Ally Sheedy said in the breakfast club when you grow old your heart just dies
so you grow up and you throw up and learn to drink your cares away to all the rent you must pay on a sofa with your feet up on your own you show that you can work a remote
this feeling we just don't know and oh it's a shame
really a shame cause we all just wish to die young well attention's all that I want
someone who'll laugh and cheer me on this time you know I'm kicking your chair and tugging onto your arm listen look at me now one second it feels like a whole hour now the moment's gone with the wind and you're chasing after the sound the sound of screwing around and who cares if the cops are running us down

GONE
Gone is a four letter word and your gone with nothing to string me along
the weight of a joke can be strong but what can I say I was wrong
just a five letter word but so strong somebody sing me a song
and make every note weigh a ton to bury me down till I'm gone
cause these words they don't mean a thing cause I learned
it's all just a wonderful scheme designed to confuse you and me
a beautiful dream indeed but we a two letter word but surely
a meaning that most of us see so why do we need to believe
I'm just wondering what do you think
I'm just asking what do you mean
Cause I been using political means
to stay on the scene see what you mean
I'm just dancing into your dream I wanna believe
When we were young a story was gold and the lines were more than paper and fold
But the professor he told me it so deconstructing every word complaining it's all just
absurd well how do we know what he means if it's all just a beautiful dream
I'm just wondering what do you think
I'm just asking what do you mean
cause I been using political means
to stay on the scene see what you mean
I'm just dancing into your dream I wanna believe
It's all just a beautiful lie so take it in stride
and if there's nothing to say why can't we wait
It's all just a beautiful lie so take it in stride
and if there's nothing to say why can't we wait
my words are broken on the ground I'm down on my knees searching for leads
your eyes are speaking for you now I know what they say I know what they say
and though it might be raining down it's perfectly clear perfectly clear
i know you mean
just please don't end it here just please don't end it here
it's all just a beautiful lie so take it in stride
and though I know it's hard to say
why can't we wait
and if there's nothing to say why can't we wait
why can't we wait why can't we wait
just please don't end it here just please don't end it here

Somehow We Escaped
02:14
|
|||
SOMEHOW WE ESCAPED
I can see I was blind I fell in line
I danced the routine and began to dream
but thankfully you screamed
chaos or fate well somehow we escaped
but the creature was free and chased us to eat
so anxiously we sipped our tea
and danced our last gently
